Watery Wed/Wolverton Mill

Hanksville Utah
Wikipedia information:

Hanksville is a small town in Wayne County, Utah, United States, at the junction of State Routes 24 and 95. The town is just south of the confluence of the Fremont River and Muddy Creek, which together form the Dirty Devil River, which then flows southeast to the Colorado River. Its population was estimated at 203 in 2006.[1]

The town was settled in 1882, and known for a time for the name given to the surrounding area, Graves Valley. It took the name of Hanksville in 1885, after Ebenezer Hanks, who was the leader of the group of pioneers who established the small Mormon settlement.[citation needed] It was not incorporated until January 6, 1999.[2]

The REA brought electricity to the community in 1960. Today agriculture, mining, and tourism are the main drivers to the local economy. Tourism is particularly important with people coming for recreation at Lake Powell, Capitol Reef National Park, the Henry Mountains, the San Rafael Swell, Goblin Valley State Park, and the solitude of the surrounding deserts and slot canyons.

Hanksville was a supply post for Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch, who would hide out at Robbers Roost in the desert southeast of town.

During the uranium mining frenzy following World War II, Hanksville became a supply center for the prospectors and miners scouring the deserts of the Colorado Plateau. Many abandoned mines can be found in the deserts surrounding the town.

The Hanksville-Burpee Quarry is located nearby and the Mars Desert Research Station is located seven miles northwest of town.

Watery Wednesday/Utah

One of the things we didn't remember about going to Utah was the high elevations that we had to go up and down, don't remember it being so steep and windy. This poor trucker was broke down, not a good thing on a curvy and windy road. I guess when we came to Utah before we took a different route and we didn't have a tow vehicle. Could really feel it with a tow behind us. But the motor home did great.

Well i have missed some Meme's this week so i am sorry i didn't get to you this week in some of the other meme's. But this past weekend all of the 9 foster kittens were pre adopted out, although they still have a few weeks to go they have found some good homes i believe, and hope and pray for. They all seemed like nice folks and loving homes, when they get to there forever homes. Anyway the older the kittens get the more attention they seem to need and i like to make sure they all have lots of attention. Oh yeh and cleaning is on top of the attention they need. LOL No momma on 7 of them so someone has to keep them clean.
Anyway the temperatures here has been beautiful and yesterday and today we worked in the yard all day. We got one of the water fountains fixed and remade cause 2 of the pond liners were broken so had to go find a replacement, wouldn't ya know it no such luck at either Lows' or Home Depot so had to make do with what they had. So here is my fountain that has been revised to make it fit. Not bad, actually like it better there.I sure am ready to plant some flowers but around here one has to learn not to get anxious in planting.

Watery Wednesday / Canals around Bend

Empty Now but will start flowing again soon.
Established in 1918, the Central Oregon Irrigation District ("COID") is a quasi Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon.

The system consists of two main canals: the Pilot Butte Canal, which runs north, through Bend, Redmond and Terrebonne; and the Central Oregon Canal, which runs east, through Bend, Alfalfa and Powell Butte. Both canals divert water from the Deschutes River.

The District provides water for about 45,000 acres within an 180,000 acre area in Central Oregon. More than 700 miles of canals provide agricultural and industrial water to the Terrebonne, Redmond, Bend, Alfalfa and Powell Butte areas. In addition, COID provides water to the City of Redmond and numerous subdivisions; in Bend, many parks and schools receive water through the COID system.

In 1989, COID commissioned and completed the Siphon Power Project. Profits from the power plant will be returned to the District to be used for capital improvements to make our distribution system more efficient.

In addition, the COID is the managing partner in the operation of the 55,000 acre foot Crane Prairie Reservoir, located on the east side of the Central Cascades.
